Holy Cross Supports Habitat Build in Fremont

Thank You Holy Cross!!

A Holy Cross Day with Habitat For Humanity—Sharing Jesus’ Love

Saturday March 17, 2018

Many heartfelt thanks to all our dear Holy Cross members’ support for our March 11th  Habitat For Humanity fundraiser! We were able to give Habitat For Humanity a check for $1,000 to help with the material costs to build the large new affordable housing units called “Central Commons” in Fremont, CA.  It is SO appreciated.  Don Varney from Habitat East Bay/ Silicon Valley will be sending us a personal thank you note soon to include in the Messenger.

David and Kathy Spenhoff and Andy Meyer participated at the work site on Saturday March 17, 2018 to install DesGlas external building insulation (the yellow stuff on the outside walls of three levels of floors), hammering wood blocking into interior walls for stairwell handrails, and caulking the gaps in the exterior-facing walls to provide energy-efficient homes. It was a bit muddy as we walked between the buildings after the recent rains, but the Lord gave us a sunny day to work on that Saturday, so we accomplished a lot in His Name. This is Phase 1 of the building project—which will ultimately provide affordable housing for 30 lower income families as first-time home owners.  Phase 2 construction will provide an additional 30 units, starting this autumn.

We were joined by three other congregations on our work day. Holy Cross opened the work day in prayer for all the home owners present, volunteers and Habitat staff. We talked about why we help our neighbors in Jesus’ love through God’s grace, giving all glory to God and not to ourselves. We were able to talk with several of the workers that day during our lunch time together and while we were working.  Thank you, Lord, for this wonderful opportunity help our community!
