Chairman of the Board of Elders The Board of Elders will consist of at least six male voting members. The number of Elders will be recommended by the Board of Elders and approved by the Church Council.
In the event of the simultaneous absence of the President and all vice-presidents, or their inability to continue in their offices, the Chairman of the Board of Elders will become the acting presiding officer of the Church Council. The Board will:
- Together with the Pastors, minister in all matters pertaining to the spiritual welfare of the congregation.
- Together with the Pastor, call qualified people of the congregation to serve as Deacons and Deaconesses in the Department of Care, and promote and supervise the activities of this department.
- Consider complaints and grievances of members of the congregation if Matthew 18:15-16 has been fully observed, and report to the congregation those which cannot be otherwise adjusted, in accordance with Matthew 18:17-18.
- Make every effort to induce members who have been negligent in their attendance of services, in the use of the Sacraments, and the financial support of the church, to mend their ways and fully enjoy the rights and privileges of their membership.
- See that all services are conducted in such as manner as to avoid needless disturbance and to foster an attitude conducive to worship among those in attendance.
- Arrange for pulpit assistance, special services, and guest speakers as necessary.
- Appoint head usher and supervise ushering service.
- Receive the list of candidates submitted by the District President when the congregation is to call a pastor or teacher. The Board will study the list and present it to the Church Council with the recommendation of the Board.
-
Support worship by participating in worship as needed, e.g. serving communion or leading worship in the absence of a pastor.
